As a business owner you’re probably aware about how difficult it can be to have your employees keep track of their time. Time cards are a nuisance that you would most likely rather do without.
These days companies of all sizes are turning to alternative solutions for keeping track of when employees start and stop working. Electronic time card systems are making the typical punch clock a relic of the past.
Several different types of time card systems are available these days, and some of them integrate with solutions that even address problems with payroll and accounting. Electronic time clocks all operate under the premise of security. Every employee is issued a unique identification code or entry pass which is used to “punch” in to or out of work. Usually the IDs are in the form of a magnetic card with a photograph of the employee printed on it. When the magnetic card is swiped across the time clock terminal, the employee is recognized, and depending on the system in place the employee is either immediately signed in or a button on the terminal has to be pressed to confirm.
But another electronic time card solution that has been seen in movies for decades but is now widely put into practice incorporates biometrics, with fingerprint reading technology. Basically an employee is identified based on his or her fingerprint. Since no two fingerprints can exactly match it’s arguably the most foolproof, secure way for employees to keep track of time and, even more important, to gain access to the workplace.
One such product is called the Genus I made by CMI. This electronic time card terminal allows for different methods of tracking employee attendance, including biometric and magnetic. The interface is Java programmable, so essential you can write custom applications to run on the terminal. It is also network ready with a built-in Ethernet port and can even be adapted to work in wireless Internet networks. Pair this product with a reliable time tracking software solution, such as those offered by GHG Corporation, and you’re good to go.
