Very often jobs are not advertised, yet somehow they are rapidly filled. This is due to the recruiters’ networks, and this is where you should be included.
To protect your job hunting adventure from commonly made mistakes, let’s run through the pitfalls of online job searches:
- First, don’t use only one social network–use many. Every networking website has its unique clientele, and when seeking a job you can’t miss any opportunity. However, don’t join too many online social networks, because they are valuable only if you manage to update your page regularly.
- Second, don’t choose a doubtful username or display shady photos of yourself. When managing an appropriate profile, consider very accurately the people that you involve within your “friends” list. As this information is visible to the general public, questionable connections may harm your reputation by association. By the way, it may be useful to “Google” yourself and screen the revealed information. Take into account that both little information and lots of non-professional information are unwanted.
- Once you have joined an online social network, don’t turn to it only when unemployed. Virtual relationships are much like real ones and need kind attention not to fade. Besides, avoid speaking badly about your past or current organization as well as the employees.
Using the Internet in job hunting is indeed an effective option; however, don’t give up traditional resumes. You may give links to your social networking profiles in the CV as well as cross-links between the online profiles in different networks.
