In my previous post I spoke about the five most powerful computer viruses, which may be a great danger to computers and even to people’s lives.

Fortunately, today there are very powerful antivirus softwares, without which the existence of your computers would be just impossible.

This post will cover the antivirus software that are widely considered to be the most effective ones. Here is the list of top three antivirus programs:

• Norton–Created by Symantec Corporation, Norton Internet Security is considered widely as the best fighter against viruses and computer worms. In addition to identifying and removing malware programs, it also has a personal firewall, phishing protection and spam detection functions. Norton Internet Security works effectively for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. The first version of this web security software was developed in 2000 and since then it has had 12 versions, the last being version 2011 released last month. The advantage of this latest version is that it has a special application that detects malware links in your Facebook profile.

• Kaspersky–The first version of Kaspersky Internet Security was released in 2006. The latest one was developed in 2010 and will run on Windows 7 as well. The functions of KIS include: malware and data leak prevention, spam and phishing detection.

• McAfee–This company’s antivirus program is designed to guarantee computer systems security both at home and in the office. In addition to all the functions that most antivirus programs perform, it has some additional features, which allow it to be included in the top three list. Among them are rootkit detection, SiteAdvisor (informs you about the degree of safety of each website), and McAfee SystemGuards (against virus infections and hacker attacks).
