When looking for an ultraportable laptop the best option to consider are netbooks. But when buying a netbook you don’t want to sacrifice quality performance for portability.

Fortunately due to their popularity netbooks are always improved and new models with new features come out and they are almost as good as full size notebook computers. The processor is of course the most important thing to be considered when buying a computer. Most netbooks run on Intel Atom single core processors. But there are many new models which run on Intel atom dual core processor. From the first glance it is obvious that one should choose a netbook with a dual core processor. But it is not as simple as it seems from the first sight.

Of course, single core processors are not good for multitasking. If you browse the internet and play a game at the same time your single core netbook will be really slow. But it comes out that dual core processors are not a full solution to the problem. Yes, they are better at multitasking, but not much better. Some experiments have shown that they function from 20% to 60% better than single core processor netbooks, not twice better as it is expected. But when you are not doing several things at a time, they both work just the same way.

On the other hand, the dual core processors require a stronger, which means bigger battery. This results in changing the size of the whole netbook, it becomes bigger and heavier. Besides, the dual core processor netbooks cost more than their single-core fellows.

So, dual-core processors have both their pros and cons. As a result, when choosing between dual core and single core processor netbooks you need to decide on what you need more, a laptop which is stronger at multitasking, or an ultraportable laptop?
